Problems with Davids' reliance on the Testament of Abraham
Mike conducts detailed analysis of the extra-biblical source Davids relies on.
Four problems: (1) According to E.P. Sanders, the Testament of Abraham is 'generally dated to the later part of the 1st century AD' -- possibly not in circulation when Peter wrote. (2) The Jewish Encyclopedia says it was probably written in Hebrew, not Greek -- so it's not the Hellenistic source Davids needs. (3) Davids adds the less common view that it was widely circulated in Asia, which is unlikely if it started in Egypt and was recently written. (4) Davids' own complaint about Genesis (Sarah calls Abraham Lord but isn't obeying in that verse) equally applies to the Testament of Abraham.
