Winger affirms the Father has authority over the Son but attributes this to the Incarnation (Phil 2:5-8), not necessarily to the eternal nature of the Trinity. He's open to but not convinced by Eternal Functional Subordination (EFS). Explicitly says he does NOT use EFS to defend complementarianism.

10 Questions with Mike Winger (Episode 5) 00:58:15 – 01:05:25

Q: Do many scriptures showing different authority levels between Father and Jesus mean the Father has higher authority? (John 14:28, 1 Cor 11:3, Matt 28:18)

Key arguments: (1) John 14:28 'the Father is greater than I' — relates to Incarnation/humbling per Phil 2:5-8. (2) 1 Cor 11:3 'head of Christ is God' — 'a rank thing,' a sense of authority the Father has over Christ. (3) This subordination 'may have started at the Incarnation but continues even after Jesus's exaltation' — it's ongoing, not just pre-resurrection. (4) Matt 28:18 'all authority has been GIVEN to me' — 'given' implies authority relationship. (5) On EFS (Eternal Functional Subordination going back before creation): 'I'm not convinced of that... it's a more rare view amongst Christians in time... I'm open to it.' (6) CRITICAL for comp/egal debate: 'Some people use Eternal Functional Subordination to defend their view of complementarianism and I wouldn't do that... I don't think you need that. I think the Bible is pretty clear on this issue whether or not you hold to Eternal Functional Subordination.' (7) In relation to creation, Father/Son authority difference is irrelevant — both have complete authority over humanity.

@DDinho555 @Sa_Gwang That’s ridiculous! We have Jesus directly commanding all believers to baptize with the backing of all authority in heaven and earth! You are way off side! Matthew 28:18–20 (NASB 2020): “And Jesus came up and spoke to them, say...

κεφαλή (kephale) — Logos Clippings (Cheryl Schatz)

A curated collection of Logos Bible Software clippings compiled by Cheryl Schatz examining the Greek word κεφαλή (kephale) and Hebrew רֹאשׁ (rosh). The clippings draw from lexicons, encyclopedias, commentaries, and academic journals to argue that "source/origin" is the primary metaphorical meaning of kephale rather than "authority/leader," with implications for interpreting 1 Corinthians 11, Ephesians 5, and Colossians 1.
