Interpreting the shame in the Barak-Jael narrative
At minimum, in the culture it's embarrassing to Barak that a woman defeats Sisera. It's glory to Jael but shame to Barak. However, this is not God's commentary against women leaders generally — it's commentary about Barak specifically not stepping up. The rebuke targets his cowardice, not women in leadership.
