Theme in Judges 4-5: lack of leadership stepping up; Deborah chastens Barak — egalitarians stretch Deborah, complementarians reach too far in the other direction.

How Women Could and Couldn’t Lead in the Old Testament: Women in Ministry part 3 01:09:28 – 01:10:29

Thematic reading of Judges 4-5

Judges 4-5 has a theme of people not stepping up and lacking faith to take the land. Deborah is deeply concerned with the lack of leadership. She chastens Barak for not stepping up. Egalitarians stretch the passage to refute normal gender distinctions. Complementarians also reach too far. Mike disagrees with complementarians specifically on Deborah's governmental judge role — there's no overstepping at all in that capacity.
