The refutation/reputation view: Paul is quoting and refuting the Corinthians
Mike presents the third interpretive approach.
This view holds that much of 1 Corinthians 11 is stuff Paul is refuting, not teaching. He is quoting the Corinthians' wrong views and then correcting them. This flips the application: headship, head coverings, and complementarian ideas are what the Corinthians wrongly believed, and Paul refutes them. The 'egalitarian-sounding' parts (verses 11-12) are Paul's actual teaching.
