Why verse 15 is an analogy: four reasons supporting the traditional cloth covering view

All The Head Covering Debates (1 Cor 11): Women in Ministry part 10 02:02:24 – 02:04:55

Mike builds his case that Paul is making an analogy, not an identification.

(1) Verse 15 never mentions hair 'done up' -- Gordon Fee notes the verse says long hair (not done-up hair) is like a covering, which breaks the hair-up view. (2) It follows the same pattern as Paul's earlier analogy in vv.5-6 (shaving analogy). (3) Both times, Paul argues from what they agree with (hair length) to what he wants them to agree with (cloth coverings). (4) The Greek words used elsewhere in the passage all refer to cloth coverings.
