Defense of Plutarch: he's speculating about funerals, not about the norms themselves
Mike counters the egalitarian dismissal of Plutarch's evidence.
Cynthia Thompson and Philip Payne dismiss Plutarch as merely speculating. But Mike argues Plutarch is speculating about WHY funeral practices exist, not about the norms themselves. His speculation only works if the underlying norms are true (women normally go covered, men uncovered). They mistake the object of speculation.
