Artwork evidence confirms religious head coverings: Augustus, sacrificial scenes, Roman coins
Mike presents visual evidence of religious head covering practices.
Multiple artworks show men with head coverings in religious contexts: Augustus performing sacrifice, goat sacrifice scenes, first-century Roman royal family at sacrifice, first-century Roman coins with religious staffs. The covering was part of the toga pulled over the back of the head. The profani (audience) did not cover; only those performing rituals covered their heads.
