Something being custom doesn't make it only custom; it may also be grounded in nature

All The Head Covering Debates (1 Cor 11): Women in Ministry part 10 03:47:32 – 03:49:05

Mike prevents a logical fallacy in interpreting the nature argument.

It WAS Greek and Roman custom for men to have short hair and women long hair. But just because something is custom doesn't mean it's ONLY custom. It's also custom not to murder -- but murder isn't just a cultural law. Paul doesn't use terms that relate to custom; he argues from nature (physis). His strategy: argue from nature for hair length, then apply that to head coverings.
