Final conclusions: male headship is biblical, complementarian, and to be celebrated

All The Head Covering Debates (1 Cor 11): Women in Ministry part 10 06:37:02 – 06:44:47

Mike delivers his overall conclusions for the passage.

Four evidences for male headship: (1) Verse 3 (kephale implies authority, transcultural). (2) Verses 8-9 (creation order and purpose support headship; egalitarian alternatives fail on verse 9). (3) Whole context fits complementarianism. (4) Verse 10 (head covering as symbol of authority). Balance: verse 11-12 mutual dependence prevents devaluing. The Father-Son relationship proves authority difference need not equal abuse. Verse 15 calls hair woman's 'glory.' Feminism shames women for being women (stay-at-home mom, asking husband). Scripture calls gender roles glorious. Women were active in ministry -- that's why Paul has to address head coverings during prayer/prophecy. God wants women in ministry while upholding male headship.
