διαλογισμός

dialogismos

disputation, argumentation, hostile reasoning

Summary

διαλογισμός in 1 Timothy 2:8 is often translated "doubting" but its primary meaning is hostile disputation — contentious reasoning directed at opponents (cf. Rom 1:21, Phil 2:14). The Ephesian men were turning prayer meetings into ideological combat against false teachers. Paul redirects them toward genuine intercession, not debate.
