Somewhere inside myself I’ve come to the conclusion that I just shouldn’t get married. Christianity seems to be mostly complimentarian. But I can’t stand it when I’m told that I’m second class. If I stay single that can never happen. Nobody will “expect” anything of me in relation to my husband. I’ll be able to always be who I want to be and who God wants me to be without having to worry about people thinking I’m not being a proper wife and mother.
http://generationswithvision.com/radio-broadcast/ Download the podcast. He talks about a lot of other superfluous stuff if you just click the listen button. Its bad for women to have careers and get jobs. Women stay at home with your daddies until a man comes and marries you. Yes every woman has to do this or America is doomed.
heh. I don’t know how to quote other people’s posts. But I am responding to Pinklight:
Yeah Its a 35 minute conversation and they tended to hop around a bit in their subject matter. The things concerning women and family pop up from time to time. The Sudanese man, who’s name I cannot recall, basically starts the talk about the situation in Sudan about the war. About 7 minutes in he talks about the war being a threat to the family although the Sudanese church seems to be growing. But he doesn’t like that the U.N. are coming in and are doing what he calls a “gender based approach to redevelopment” separating women from men and giving women business and jobs. Giving women these jobs is apparently messing up the family unit.
Or at least I’m assuming he means it’s bad for a woman to have a business apart from a man. Thus the U.N. is corrupting and secularizing the nation.
At 12 minutes the Sudanese man talks about how the women have 25 percent of the government jobs and that this has emboldened them to want more jobs. And this of course is completely against God’s will, am I right? They talk about church matters and up to a bit after the 15 minute mark he talks about how some women in the churches are youth ministers and preachers. And that the church he and his brother run do not allow women to have these positions.
The overall message is they do not like the idea of men and women being apart from one another and that they should remain together to preserve the family. And to that I find no fault. But to me a disturbing emphasis was put on the woman half. No real comments were made on the fact that man was separated from woman. It’s the fact that woman was separated from man that is bad.
Have you guys ever heard of this guy named Kevin Swanson. I’ve listened to a couple of his podcasts and he really seems to hate egalitarianism. I’m not quite sure if its Christian Egalitarianism or Humanist egalitarians. But he treats egalitarianism like monstrous sin like that of axe murder. I’m listening to this podcast about Sudan. Him and a guest are talking about their disgruntled feelings about the Sudan government giving women independence and jobs.
They also find it troubling that women in Sudan are youth pastors and preachers. And want to stop it from happening.
From here I get the feeling that this Swanson guy is one of those who considers complimentarianism a doctrine/foundation. Basically Sudan needs to be saved. But by men and men only.
There are untold depths of arrogance in the idea that any woman who doesn’t have a man “leading” her is unhappy. He probably thinks no woman is happy unless she’s married.
That makes this blog all the more horrid to read. Its like she’s shooting herself in the foot. Women who really really believe in female subordination must not think too highly of themselves.
Wow that place is vicious. And the poster is really childish. I notice how he took the pastor’s wife scenario and artificially inflated it with their own assumptions. Rather petty and shallow ones too. Sounds like he’s had rotten experiences with women. When it says plain as day in the story, the exact reason why she didn’t want a larger house. The price of the pastor’s old home ($375,000) and the price of the pastor’s new home ($500,000) were appropriately not revealed to the congregation. However, they are relevant to this story because the pastor previously told his congregation that they were not to buy more expensive homes, but rather God desired them to set aside that extra money and give it to kingdom causes (i.e. the church)
So the wife didn’t want a larger house for purely unselfish reasons. But her “king of my domain” husband didn’t listen to her. And he broke his promise to his congregation. What a champ!
Also the guy who wrote this didn’t go to Wade’s blog because he obviously did not read the whole story.
I don’t even understand how this Diane Sellner person could do half the things she did. How can she moderate a discussion board or be Vice President of the website? She’s a woman. Surely there are men on that CARM website who don’t want her to be in authority. The stench of hypocrisy seems pretty ripe to me. I wonder if she even realizes how much of a hypocrite she is?
Oh wow. It got to the point where I really didn’t want to read anymore. The further down the list I read the more ridiculous it all seemed to get. I’m being blunt, I know, when I say that I think Comps think of women as lesser beings. As animals. Heck maybe we’re just dogs to them. People expect a lot of out dogs. Properly trained dogs can work and provide comfort. A pet is a pleasure to take care of and feed but nobody ever expects a dog to lead a man. Its preposterous. (Of course I’m not talking about seeing eye dogs but you catch my drift)
There is actually hiking gear for dogs so hikers can take their dogs on camping trips, and the dogs can help their masters.
I think its like that in the full blown rawness of what Complimentarians believe. When you take out all of the flattering phrases like “joyful support, intelligent helpfulness, and fruitful partnership”. Men are more like God than women. This is their creed. Therefore women are not fully human. Because if Men are more like God than Women then how can a woman possibly be as good as a man? Especially since Comps seem to have this idea that God is biologically male and has no female traits.
A man can love his loyal dog but at the end of the day he still thinks of it as a dog.
I’ve never actually heard of a woman who supported complimentarian views who didn’t have a husband who also supported it. So in essence you know its actually the other way around. And sometimes I wonder… what if a man of this dogma happened to have a daughter who believed her calling was to pastor a church? How would he react? Would he support her calling to lead people to Christ and teach and nurture a flock? Or would he say that she is deceived? Or worse try and stop her? I’ve always wanted to ask this question to an actual complimentarian.
Has anybody ever asked a Comp what it is that a woman can and can’t do. Like do they have a list? How long is that list and how specific is it? Is it official across the board or can any patriarch just change the rules at a whim?
Isn’t it degrading to children to allow “stupid and easily deceived” women to teach them some of the most basic Christian lessons? What if one of the women folk forget an important scripture? Or just does a bad job at teaching? Things like this anger me. It’s obviously masochism flimsily disguised as Biblical truth. When really it is nothing but tradition. An establishment that needs to be toppled.
I think the reason God took a rib from Adam is very simple. He wanted the two to become one anyway, right? Two puzzle pieces that fit perfectly. Or perhaps Lego pieces… I think God intended for the relationship between Man and Woman to be that close and that intimate. But Comps take that and warp it to mean dominance. But I think God is saying that men and women are a part of each other. Do I make any sort of sense?
Its really disturbing to hear this. Long story short complementarity men are calling women, their women, all women, stupid. Complementarianism seems to march step for step with the way Islam views women. The Koran out right states that women are stupid and that a woman has only half the wit of a man. So that if a woman was to be an eye witness to a crime…well…she couldn’t. Or she could if there are two female eye witnesses. Because it takes two women to meet the brain power of a man.
