Carson writes: 'Nor is it plausible that the women are silenced because they were uneducated, for again we must ask why Paul doesn't silence uneducated people, not just women. And since Paul's rule operates in all the churches, it would be necessary to hold that all first-century Christian women were uneducated, which is palpable nonsense.' The universal scope ('as in all the churches') makes the education explanation untenable.
