Elders have a natural role in judging prophecy due to their doctrinal guardianship function
Mike builds the case that elders must have been prominent in testing prophecy.
One of the elder's defined jobs is to preserve proper doctrine and confront mistakes or false claims. Since the prophecy test is partly a doctrinal test (1 John 4:1-3), elders would naturally need to be involved. God did not establish congregational rule but gave elders authority to lead and make decisions about what the congregation receives as true teaching.
