Like the Pharisees with the Sabbath — 'no work' led to questions of what counts as work, and they built a 'fence around the mountain.' The debate between stronger patriarchalists and softest complementarians is about how far to extend the fence. Do we have isolated rules for marriage and eldership, or principles that extend into all society, and if so how far?
