Abigail in 1 Samuel 25 — a positive example of a wife righteously subverting her husband's authority

Everything Women Can and Can't Do According to the Bible: Women in Ministry part 13 01:40:04 – 01:43:06

Mike uses Abigail as a biblical example showing limits on female submission.

Abigail subverted Nabal's wishes when David threatened to kill him. Key points: (1) She's called 'discerning,' her husband 'not discerning' (v.3); (2) Life was in danger (vv.5-13); (3) She went behind Nabal's back — rightly (vv.18-20); (4) She openly called her husband worthless and prone to folly (v.25); (5) She's seen as right (vv.3,17,32-35). Principle: for her own safety or her household's, a wife can righteously violate the principle of submission. Also references David fleeing Saul and Peter obeying God rather than men (Acts 5:29).
