Jesus' use of Sabbath examples to push back against over-application
Everything Women Can and Can't Do According to the Bible: Women in Ministry part 13
01:36:00 – 01:39:04
Mike draws a parallel between Jesus pushing back on Pharisees' Sabbath rules and gender role over-application.
Three examples: (1) John 7 — circumcision on the 8th day even if it falls on Sabbath, yet Pharisees objected to Jesus healing on Sabbath; (2) Matthew 12 — David eating the showbread reserved for priests because of necessity; (3) Matthew 12:5-6 — priests working on the Sabbath without breaking the law. These show there are justifications for breaking normally-held rules, and the Pharisees wrongly extended Sabbath laws too far. Mike applies this to patriarchalists extending male headship too far.
