Mary and Martha (Luke 10:38) — Jesus affirms theological learning over traditional hosting
Everything Women Can and Can't Do According to the Bible: Women in Ministry part 13
03:03:44 – 03:05:46
Mike uses Mary and Martha as a key example for women's theological education.
Luke 10:38-42: Mary sat at Jesus' feet listening to his teaching while Martha was distracted with serving. NT Wright says 'sat at the Lord's feet' means officially being trained to be a rabbi — Mike thinks that's an overreach but agrees it means she was an official disciple. Jesus tells Martha that Mary 'has chosen the good portion' — theological learning over traditional hosting. Jesus refuses to limit Mary's theological education. Principle: do not limit the theological education of women.
