1 Corinthians 14:29-35 — women silent in judging prophecy, not silent in general

Everything Women Can and Can't Do According to the Bible: Women in Ministry part 13 03:19:07 – 03:21:41

Mike interprets the controversial silence passage.

1 Corinthians 14:29-35: 'Let two or three prophets speak and let the others weigh what is said... the women should keep silent in the churches.' Mike believes this silence is specifically during the JUDGING of prophecy, not silence in general (since 1 Corinthians 11 explicitly allows women to prophesy). The judgment/weighing of prophecy is an elder-type function — discernment, evaluation against scripture, statement to the congregation about how to receive what was said. Women can speak functionally to a mixed group as long as it doesn't violate an elder-like function.
