Mike examines uses of authenteo in ancient astrological texts.
Authenteo and its cognates appear in astrological texts describing the authority or influence of celestial bodies over various aspects of life. Dorotheus of Sidon (1st century AD) and Ptolemy's Tetrabiblos (2nd century AD) both use the word family in contexts meaning 'to have authority/influence over' — clearly a neutral authority meaning, not domination or violence. A planet authenteo-ing over a house means it has governing influence, not that it is domineering. Mike notes these are particularly important because astrological texts are written in straightforward Koine, not literary Atticist Greek, making them better evidence for common usage.
