Henry Scott Baldwin's survey of authenteo usage

ALL The Debates Over 1 Tim 2_11-15: Women in Ministry part 12 (it took me a year to make this) 05:40:00 – 05:58:37

Mike discusses Baldwin's comprehensive survey, published in the Kostenberger/Schreiner volume.

Henry Scott Baldwin surveyed all known uses of the authenteo word family and concluded that the predominant meaning in texts contemporary with the NT is 'to have authority over' or 'to exercise authority over.' Baldwin's work is published in 'Women in the Church' (edited by Kostenberger, Schreiner, and Baldwin). His survey was challenged by egalitarians but has held up well under scrutiny. Mike notes that Baldwin's findings align with Wolters' independent analysis, providing convergent evidence from two separate researchers.
