Book of Job handled dismissively by the Bethel movement: Johnson's position is 'Job is the question, Jesus is the answer'
Mike discusses how the movement deals with the theological challenge posed by the book of Job
The book of Job presents a major challenge to the Bethel theology of universal healing and prosperity. Todd White interprets Job by arguing God didn't cause or allow Job's suffering — Satan did, without God's involvement. Mike notes that the end of Job explicitly says God brought those things on Job, making that view textually indefensible. Bill Johnson doesn't even try to interpret Job; he dismisses it with the phrase 'Job is the question, Jesus is the answer' and moves on. Mike sees this as the 'Jesus is perfect theology' pillar functioning to make Johnson's view of Jesus impervious even to Scripture — Scripture cannot correct his conception of Jesus.
