Reason 6: People want it — desire for Jesus's return creates confirmation bias favoring predictions

End of the World Predictions and Why They're Wrong 00:47:25 – 00:48:26

Sixth reason people fall for false predictions.

Christians genuinely desire the return of Jesus. When a prediction appears, excitement is natural and can override critical evaluation. Additionally, false end-times predictions often arise during genuine revivals — when God is visibly at work, people assume it must be the final generation. Example: in Calvary Chapel circles people said 'the rapture will happen before Chuck [Smith] dies.' Pastor Chuck Smith died; the rapture did not happen. Mike calls this a failure of clear biblical thinking about the expected delay between the First and Second Comings.
