Genesis 15:6 — Abraham's salvific justification happened decades before the Isaac incident

The Debate Over James 2: Catholic or Protestant View 00:34:26 – 00:35:28

Key chronological argument proving James's use of 'justified' is not salvific

Genesis 15:4-6 records that Abraham 'believed in the Lord and he accounted it to him for righteousness' — this is the salvific justification event. It occurred when God promised descendants as numerous as the stars. This was decades before the Isaac offering in Genesis 22. Therefore the 'justification' James describes in James 2:21 (at the Isaac event) cannot be the salvific event — it must be a different use of the word.
