Mike's view: before the fall there was harmonious, tensionless leadership; now the curse introduces conflict -- the solution is alleviating abuse, not eliminating the nature of authority.

Was Women's Submission Just a Curse to Be Overturned? Women in Ministry part 2 02:03:15 – 02:04:15

Mike's synthesis of Genesis 2-3 on authority

Mike proposes that before the fall, Adam's leadership was easy, symmetrical, with no tension, abuses, or rebellions. The curse introduces conflict: the woman wants to fight for control, the man will end up ruling. Our application should be: as long as conflict exists, the man has the leader role, and the wife should yield -- but the solution is alleviating the abuses and harm, not eliminating the nature of authority in the home.

Eph 5:22 and Mutual Submission

The mutual and reciprocal nature of hypotasso in Eph 5:21 makes a hierarchical reading of v22 semantically incoherent. Paul cannot establish one-to-another voluntary submission and then immediately mean one-directional hierarchy without breaking the logic of his own passage.
