2 Maccabees is part of the Catholic/Eastern Orthodox canon but is not accepted by Jews, not included in Protestant Bibles, and not affirmed by Jesus or Paul as Scripture. Mike says even though he rejects it as canonical, he will engage the passage on its own terms and ask whether — even hypothetically treated as Scripture — it teaches purgatory.
