Belleville's defense: patronage of a house church was an authoritative role in Greco-Roman times

Women Leaders in the New Testament: Women in Ministry part 4 00:14:18 – 00:15:51

Mike reads Belleville's argument from Two Views on Women in Ministry (p. 37).

Belleville argues: 'Patronage of a house church was an authoritative role. The householder in Greco-Roman times was automatically in charge of any group that met in his or her domicile.' Mike identifies problems: this would make rich people automatic leaders (since they had bigger homes for gatherings), which contradicts James and the general pattern of church leadership not being tied to wealth.
