Mark 13:28-31 — the fig tree parable and 'this generation' interpreted as the generation that sees the signs
Mike addresses the key contested phrase 'this generation will not pass away.'
The fig tree parable: when the branch becomes tender you know summer is near — likewise when you see these signs you know he is near. 'This generation' does not refer to the first-century generation or ethnically to the Jewish people (as some argue). It refers to the generation alive when the signs of the abomination of desolation and the tribulation begin. That generation will not pass away before all is fulfilled. The words of Jesus will not pass away. This reading is consistent with the whole context.
