Mark 13 synthesis: Jesus taught a long delay, not an imminent return
Mike draws the interpretive conclusion from the whole of Mark 13 before moving to Luke 21.
Taking Mark 13 as a whole, the message is: (1) long delay with faithful witness during it; (2) false Christs and natural disasters are NOT signs; (3) there is one sign: the abomination of desolation; (4) the tribulation following it will be unprecedented; (5) then Jesus comes visibly; (6) that generation won't pass; (7) but no one knows the timing so stay awake. This is the opposite of predicting an imminent first-century return.
