Why is the temple's destruction in AD 70 discussed alongside the second coming? Similar events bracket both
Mike addresses the structural question of why Jesus weaves AD 70 and the Second Coming together.
Similar events bracket both the AD 70 destruction and the future return: armies/tribulation, destruction of the temple, false Christs. Jesus gives the believers in the first century a warning that protects them from AD 70 (when you see armies, flee). In the future, a rebuilt temple will also be destroyed — the futurist temple is not a glorious event (built in ignorance or rejection of Christ) but a fulfillment of prophecy. The structural weaving of past and future fulfillments is characteristic of partial/total prophecy.
