Matthew 16:28 — 'some will not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom' fulfilled at the Transfiguration

Why Jesus Was NOT A Failed Apocalyptic Prophet 01:00:41 – 01:03:14

Mike addresses the final major verse used to support an imminent second-coming expectation.

Matthew 16:28 — 'there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.' Key distinctions: (1) He does not say 'coming with his holy angels' (the characteristic second-coming phrase); (2) The kingdom of God was already present in Jesus' ministry (Matthew 4:17, Luke 11:20); (3) Immediately following in all three synoptic Gospels (Matthew 17, Mark 9, Luke 9), the very next event is the Transfiguration — Jesus' face shining like the sun, garments white as light, God's voice declaring 'this is my beloved Son.' The fact that Matthew, Mark, AND Luke all record this statement followed immediately by the Transfiguration is, Mike argues, the inspired authors identifying the Transfiguration as the fulfillment. Gospel authors rearrange topically — unanimous chronological agreement here is significant.
