Soteriology enters: Sye argues if a person contributes anything to their salvation (including the choice of faith), salvation becomes a work; leads into the faith-as-a-gift debate

Does Presup Apologetics Have a Biblical Foundation? Mike Winger vs Sye Ten Bruggencate 01:00:49 – 01:04:58

Sye introduces Calvinist soteriology as the foundation for the apologetic difference

Sye presses Winger: How much credit does Jesus get for your salvation? Winger says he makes a choice to trust God but doesn't think he gets credit for salvation. Sye argues that if faith is not a gift, then faith is something you do, which makes it a work — contradicting Ephesians 2:8-9. He uses the analogy: two drowning people, both given a rope — the difference between who grabs and who doesn't is 100% you, not the rescuer. That, Sye argues, is not the gospel. The true picture is two dead people at the bottom of the lake — only divine action can save.
