Tom Schreiner's refutation: co-worker/labor terms are too vague to indicate leadership
Mike reads a lengthy quote from Tom Schreiner (Two Views, pp. 280-281).
Schreiner lists all male co-workers (Timothy, Apollos, Urbanus, Titus, Epaphroditus, etc.) and female co-workers (Priscilla in Romans 16:3, Euodia and Syntyche in Philippians 4:3). He also notes Paul uses 'kopiao' (labor) of women like Mary, Tryphena, Tryphosa, and Persis. Schreiner exposes the logical flaw: egalitarians see these terms used of leaders, then conclude all who bear these terms are leaders. But the terms are 'fundamentally vague on the matter of leadership.' The syllogism breaks: Paul calls his own ministry 'labor,' women labor too, therefore women are apostles? The terms describe everyone at the company, not just the boss.
