Elders as official teachers carrying apostolic doctrine
Mike describes the teaching function of elders.
Elders are the official teachers in the church, carrying along apostolic doctrine: who Jesus is, understanding the OT, fulfilled prophecy, Christ's death and resurrection, salvation through faith, repentance from sin. This is a very strong argument against the egalitarian position because 1 Timothy 3's masculine requirements are hard to explain away.
