Keener's sources examined: 1 Maccabees 12:23 does not support letter-carrier-as-teacher
Mike examines Keener's footnoted sources one by one.
Keener cites Xenophon's Cyropaedia, 1 Maccabees, Cicero, Ephesians, and Colossians. First, 1 Maccabees 12:23: the text says envoys are to 'report to you accordingly' -- the letter seems to have more authority than the envoy, and the envoys are held accountable to what the letter says, not given interpretive authority over it. The letter is only four sentences long, unlike Romans.
