Side 7: The conscience governs participation in morally ambiguous Halloween elements

A Pastor Shares His Thoughts on Halloween 00:30:13 – 00:34:47

Mike's seventh and final analytical point — the role of personal conscience

Drawing on Romans 14:23 ('whatever does not proceed from faith is sin'), Mike teaches that if a believer feels convicted about trick-or-treating or any Halloween participation, they must abstain — their conscience makes an otherwise-permissible act sinful for them. However, conscience can only make a neutral thing bad; it cannot make a bad thing acceptable (e.g., immodest dress is not a conscience issue). Additionally, Romans 14:20 teaches that even if your conscience is clear, you must consider whether your participation stumbles others — love for the brother or sister outweighs personal freedom. The principle: curtail your freedoms to bless those who don't share them.
