Luke 16:16–17 and Matthew 5:17–18 show Jesus's own high view of Scripture — he came to fulfill, not edit, the law
Winger marshals Jesus's direct statements about the permanence and authority of Scripture to counter Zahnd's 'Jesus edits the Bible' method.
Luke 16:17: 'It is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one dot of the law to become void.' Matthew 5:17–18: 'Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished.' Mark 12:36: Jesus quotes Psalm 110 and says 'David himself, in the Holy Spirit, declared...' — attributing the Psalm's authorship to Holy Spirit inspiration. All three texts show that Jesus held Scripture in the highest possible regard. The idea that Jesus modeled a practice of editing or rejecting scriptural texts is directly contradicted by Jesus's own statements about Scripture's permanence and authority.
