Jeremiah 10:1-2 context: 'Don't learn the ways of the nations' is not a blanket prohibition

Stop Twisting Jeremiah 10 Because It's Not About Christmas Trees 00:04:42 – 00:05:43

Reading the passage from the beginning

Jeremiah 10:1-2 says 'learn not the ways of the nations.' This phrase could theoretically be applied to nearly anything nations do — bicycles, voting, public schools — but that would be absurd. The verse is not a blanket prohibition on any practice nations engage in. Jeremiah 10 is about something very specific, and that specificity must be determined by reading further in context. The Christmas tree, moreover, didn't even exist until the 1500s AD.
