Jeremiah 10:3-4: The craftsman detail rules out Christmas trees
Verse-by-verse examination of the passage
Verse 3 says the tree is 'worked with an axe by the hands of a craftsman' — a skilled woodworker who shapes it into a special form. This is already different from a Christmas tree, which requires no skilled carpentry. Mike also notes from personal experience that Christmas trees are cut with a saw (not an axe) and the cut takes about seven seconds. Verse 4 says the object is decorated with real silver and gold (not ornaments in silver and gold colors) and fastened with hammer and nails. This is not a Christmas tree — it is something being crafted into a shaped object.
