Q&A: Core doctrines vs. peripheral doctrines — spiderweb illustration; Mormonism example

Ben Shapiro, a Catholic Bishop and the Gospel. 00:45:09 – 00:47:12

Answering viewer question from Jacob Inglot about when doctrine becomes heresy

Mike uses a spiderweb analogy: core doctrines (identity of Christ, salvation by grace through faith apart from works) are at the center — getting these wrong destroys the whole web. Peripheral doctrines (speaking in tongues, church government, excommunication practices) are at the outside — getting them wrong damages the web but doesn't destroy it. Mormonism is an example of tampering with the core gospel message (salvation by grace plus works).

κεφαλή (kephale) — Logos Clippings (Cheryl Schatz)

A curated collection of Logos Bible Software clippings compiled by Cheryl Schatz examining the Greek word κεφαλή (kephale) and Hebrew רֹאשׁ (rosh). The clippings draw from lexicons, encyclopedias, commentaries, and academic journals to argue that "source/origin" is the primary metaphorical meaning of kephale rather than "authority/leader," with implications for interpreting 1 Corinthians 11, Ephesians 5, and Colossians 1.
