Tom Schreiner agrees Junia could be a missionary but adds a nuance: if she was an apostle/missionary, she probably functioned particularly as a missionary to women. He cites Ernst Kasemann's observation that 'the wife can have access to the women's areas which would not be generally accessible to the husband.' A female missionary would have had different access and function than a male one in the gender-separated ancient world.
