N.T. Wright argues that Mary Magdalene and the other women who first saw the risen Jesus are 'apostles to the apostles' and that this is 'of incalculable significance.' He says this in his book Surprised by Scripture (p. 69) and argues we should not be surprised that Paul calls Junia an apostle in Romans 16:7.
