Egalitarian response: cultural reasons prevented women apostles
Mike presents and critiques the standard egalitarian counter-argument.
Craig Keener argues that because of apostles' special rank and role in breaking new ground, women would have faced special obstacles in that culture. This is the standard egalitarian explanation: any indication of male-only roles is explained as cultural acquiescence. Mike warns this is in danger of becoming an unfalsifiable theory — every male-only role is explained away by culture, with no way to distinguish God's preference from cultural accommodation.
