Undesigned coincidence: John's Passover timeline and Mark's narrative calibrate perfectly
McLatchie's second Gospel-based undesigned coincidence — the precise synchronization of John 12 and Mark 11-14.
John 12:1 — Jesus arrives at Bethany six days before Passover. The next day (five days before Passover) he enters Jerusalem on a donkey. Mark 11 doesn't mention Jesus approaching Bethany the evening before — it telescopes the narrative. But working through Mark 11-14 day by day: Mark 11:11 (end of day 5), 11:12 (morning of day 4), 11:19 (end of day 4), 11:20 (morning of day 3), Mark 13 Mount of Olives discourse (end of day 3), then Mark 14:1 — "now two days before Passover." This perfectly calibrates with John's starting point even though Mark never mentioned when Jesus arrived in Bethany. The two independent accounts synchronize on a timeline Mark never explicitly stated.
