Objection: Jesus's deity borrowed from pagan deities — and response
Addressing the popular online claim that the deity of Jesus was borrowed from pagan mythologies.
The claim that Jesus's deity is derived from pagan deities (e.g., Osiris, Mithras) ignores the thoroughly Jewish context of the Gospels. The presentation of the Messiah in the Gospels is grounded in the Old Testament — not in pagan traditions. The parallels are between the Gospels and the OT, not between the Gospels and pagan mythology. This error arises from a failure to situate the Bible within its Jewish context.
