Objective atonement 2,000 years ago vs. subjective appropriation at conversion
Winger explains how a believer can say they died with Christ even though they were not alive when Jesus died.
In the objective sense, a believer died with Christ 2,000 years ago when Jesus paid for their sins — even before they were born. In the subjective experiential sense, they move into that objective reality at conversion. Both senses are valid; neither contradicts the other. This also shows why one can say all died (objective, universal) without affirming all are saved (subjective, not universal).
