The dying and rising gods parallel argument fails because Paul and non-Christian sources still have to be explained independently of the Gospels

Even if one granted that the Gospels borrowed from dying and rising god myths, one still has to account for Paul (a primary source) and the non-Christian sources Tacitus, Josephus, and Lucian. The pagan parallels argument does not touch these independent lines of evidence.
