Paul's eschatology: 2 Corinthians 5:8 and Philippians 1:20-22 show an intermediate disembodied state after death, before the final bodily resurrection

Paul's two-stage eschatological framework

Paul describes a two-stage eschatology: (1) At death, believers go to be with Christ as disembodied spirits (2 Cor. 5:8; Phil. 1:20-22). (2) At Christ's return, those spirits are reunited with their raised bodies. This is not pure disembodied immortality but a temporary intermediate state leading to bodily resurrection.
