Q&A: Does God have divine hatred? — Yes, Scripture affirms it, alongside God's love

Scripture clearly teaches that God hates the wicked (Psalm 5:5) and simultaneously loves the world (John 3:16). These are not contradictory. Analogously, humans feel anger and love toward the same person simultaneously. God's anger is perfect and justified; his love is bigger in the sense that he is willing to die for those he judges, providing a way of redemption. Winger affirms divine hatred while emphasizing that God's love is the predominant and determinative reality — he takes no pleasure in the death of the wicked (Ezekiel 33:11) and wants all to repent.
