When a Christian falsely promises healing and the person dies, address the false prophet privately in love; be present for the sick person without making promises

20 Questions with Pastor Mike (Episode 1) 00:18:02 – 00:22:04

Question from Alex M about how to speak to someone dying of cancer whose hope was falsely raised by another Christian claiming God said the cancer would not return.

Mike shares a personal story: a friend he was discipling, while praying with a terminally ill woman, declared "I know God is going to heal you" — a zeal-driven promise Mike did not sense was genuine. The woman later died. Mike's regret: he should have pulled the friend aside afterward to gently correct him, explaining he was speaking from himself, not God. Advice: (1) Address the false promiser privately and pastorally, not publicly. (2) Involve church leadership if needed. (3) For the sick person — unless you have genuine reason to believe one way or another, hold your peace, pray, wait for wisdom, and stay close so you can be there when they need help processing.
